Starting a preschool in a small town: what to plan

18 October 2026 · 2 min read

Small towns across Tamil Nadu have many families looking for good early education close to home. Starting a preschool can be rewarding work, and planning well makes all the difference.

Know your families

Talk to parents in the area. How many young children live nearby? What do parents look for? How far will they travel? This tells you how big to start and what to offer.

Find the right place

  • A safe, clean building, ideally on the ground floor
  • Good light and air in every classroom
  • Child-sized toilets and a place to wash hands
  • Some outdoor space for play
  • Easy for parents to reach

Check the rules

Find out the registration and approval requirements that apply to preschools in your area before you commit to a building, and allow for the time they take.

Choose a curriculum

Parents want to know what their child will learn. A tested curriculum with clear daily plans gives your teachers confidence and gives parents a reason to trust you from the first day.

Find and train teachers

Warm, patient teachers matter more than anything else in a preschool. Plan time and money for training before you open, and keep training through the year.

Plan your opening

Open days, school tours and word of mouth bring the first families. Start admissions a few months before the school year begins.
